The United Nations is made up of approximately ten intergovernmental institutions, each one dedicated to a specific sector of the economy, society or culture.
UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) was set up in 1945 with its stated purpose of contributing to peace and security and of furthering respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms by promoting international collaboration through education, science, culture and communication.
One of the principal missions of UNESCO is to protect, safeguard, and pass down to future generations natural and cultural heritage sites.
